EDS 307- Comparative development of India and China

Historical and contemporary accounts of the development trajectories of Indian and Chinese economies, polities and societies. Key development issues in both countries in a comparative framework using both historical trajectories as well as current debates on the patterns of long term development in both countries. The lectures focus on the major historical events, movements and shifts in these countries to provide a deeper and broader context to current day development processes. Key issues such as early modern development, colonialism and imperialism, formation of the new nation state and its implications for national development.
